Masmaat Karim, Hamed Kaya, Fadel Sieda, and Mahmoud Eissa, with the aid of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, conducted a medical examination of the victim following his arrest at a checkpoint on May 12.

“His condition was critical,” said the PA Health Ministry’s statement.

The Israeli Army denied any role in the hospitalization, as noted by Al-Ayyam.

Al-Ayyam notes reports that the IDF routinely sends troops to hospitals without first conducting a proper medical examination. When they do go to medical centers, it’s usually because they found someone died or is critically ill. In a typical case, “the troops go in because the patient’s family has asked them to, and the patient had a bad stomach. After they leave, the family demands to search the patient,” he said.

In November, one IDF soldier was indicted by a Shin Bet judge for fatally shooting a Palestinian man at the Qalandiya checkpoint. The soldier, who has not been charged in the incident, is said to have fired a shot at a man who was lying on the ground on a sidewalk, leading to the shooting deaths of the man, his wife, and their two young children on November 23, as well as the other man who was wounded by the gunshot.
